Once upon a time, a poor wood-cutter and his wife lived near a great forest with their three-year-old daughter. They struggled to provide for her and often went without food. One day, while the wood-cutter was working, a beautiful woman with a crown of stars appeared before him. She introduced herself as the Virgin Mary and offered to take the wood-cutter’s daughter to heaven to care for her. The wood-cutter agreed, and the girl was taken to heaven where she was treated like royalty.
Years later, when the girl was fourteen, the Virgin Mary entrusted her with the keys to the thirteen doors of heaven. The girl was warned not to open the thirteenth door, but her curiosity got the best of her. She opened the door and saw the Trinity sitting in fire and splendor. She was overwhelmed and touched the light, which turned her finger golden. She immediately regretted her actions and ran away in fear.
When the Virgin Mary returned and asked for the keys, the girl lied and said she had not opened the forbidden door. The Virgin Mary saw through her lie and banished her from heaven. The girl fell to earth and lived a miserable life in a wilderness.
Years later, a king found the girl and fell in love with her. They got married, and she gave birth to three children. However, each time she denied opening the forbidden door, the Virgin Mary took one of her children away. The people accused her of being a man-eater, and she was sentenced to be burned alive. As she was about to die, she confessed her sin, and the Virgin Mary forgave her, returning her children and granting her happiness for the rest of her life.
